Ex-NFL player Bill Romanowski discusses his life
Oct. 17:  Former pro-football player, Bill Romanowski, talks about the NFL, and the drugs, violence and controversy that were a part of his career in his new book, "Romo: My Life On the Edge."

NEW YORK - Former NFL linebacker Bill Romanowski admitted using steroids and growth hormone supplied by Victor Conte in an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes.”

Romanowski said he took illegal steroids for a brief period and got them from Conte, the former head of the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative, which has been at the center of the steroid controversy.

“I took it (human growth hormone) for a brief period and I didn’t receive any great benefits from it,” Romanowski said on the Sunday broadcast.  “I compromised my morality to play another two years in the NFL.”

In November 2003, the NFL announced that Romanowski tested positive for the designer steroid THG when he played for the Oakland Raiders.  That was the last season of Romanowski’s 16-year career.

In his soon to be released book entitled “Romo: My Life on the Edge,” Romanowski admitted to taking bullet-sized vials of the anabolic steroid THG, which Conte called “the clear.”

Romanowski played for San Francisco, Philadelphia, Denver and Oakland and was a member of four Super Bowl-winning teams.

The volatile Romanowski made headlines in training camp in 2003, when he ripped the helmet off teammate Marcus Williams and punched him in the face, breaking his orbital bone.

Though Romanowski apologized, Williams sued the linebacker last week for alleged battery, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress.  Romanowski agreed to pay $415,000 in damages.
