Previewing NFL's Week 3

A look ahead to Patriots-Steelers, Giants-Chargers, more

SUNDAY, Sept. 25
Atlanta at Buffalo:
It’s a duel between Michael Vick and J.P. Losman, each coming off weak performances and losses. The city of Buffalo will try to even things up by trucking in snow.

Carolina at Miami: The Panthers might be rounding into form. The Dolphins might be rounding into form, too. That’s good for the Panthers and bad for the Dolphins.

Cincinnati at Chicago: Carson Palmer is almost as hot as Matt Leinart. Holding Joey Harrington in check last week is hardly adequate preparation for the Bears.

Cleveland at Indianapolis: Peyton Manning is tough inside his dome. Romeo Crennel is looking at old Patriots-Colts playoff game tapes while hoping they can somehow conjure up frigid field conditions.

Jacksonville at N.Y. Jets: The Jaguars scored only three points last week against the Colts. Actually, the way Chad Pennington has handled the football thus far, that might be enough.

New Orleans at Minnesota: Mike Tice, 0-2, has quite a dilemma. He has to win to try and keep his job, but he’ll be a villain if he beats the team everybody in America is rooting for.

Oakland at Philadelphia: This will be a matchup for fans of Randy Moss versus Terrell Owens, or more specifically, one wide receiver who talks to his quarterback versus one who doesn’t.

Tampa Bay at Green Bay: Cadillac Williams has two 100-yard games in two weeks. Question: If he jumps into the Lambeau seats after a TD, do the fans have to throw him back?

Tennessee at St. Louis: Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow got his first win last week against the Ravens. The Rams are a step up in class, albeit a baby step.

Arizona at Seattle: A lot of people picked the Cardinals to be one of the surprise teams of the 2005 season. And they are. They’re 0-2 and on the road against a team that upset Atlanta last week.

Dallas at San Francisco: This used to be a great rivalry, back in the day. Now the most exciting aspect of this game will be watching Alex Smith play catch with the water boy.

New England at Pittsburgh: The Patriots got spanked last week against Carolina, and now have to go deal with the 2-0 Steelers. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not always good to be the king.

N.Y. Giants at San Diego: The Chargers were supposed to challenge for the AFC title. Now they’re 0-2. The faint rumble of Philip Rivers supporters is heard in the distance.

MONDAY, SEPT. 26
Kansas City at Denver:
Which Jake Plummer will show up, the one who was inept in a loss to the Dolphins, or the one who picked apart the Chargers? At this rate, Denver will finish 8-8.
