Moyer reportedly rejects Yankees

Mariners pitcher exercises 10-5 rights; reason is unknown

Seattle Mariners pitcher used his "10-5" rights to reject a waiver claim by the New York Yankees, the Seattle Times reported Wednesday.

The 42-year-old left-hander, with 10 years in the major leagues and five with his current team, is allowed to reject being claimed off waivers by any team.

The Times said it was unknown why Moyer turned down a chance to join the Yankees, who are in a tight race with the Boston Red Sox in the American League East. Prior to the trade deadline, Moyer nixed a possible trade to the Houston Astros, also a playoff contender.
