Redick shoots U.S. to another tourney win

Duke star hits 6 three-pointers in 113-78 trouncing of Nigeria

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina - J.J. Redick of Duke hit six 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the United States to a 113-78 victory over Nigeria on Tuesday in the preliminary round of the men’s Under 21 World Championships.

Redick tied a U.S. record in the Under 21 tournament with six 3s, the first of which came 5 seconds into the game and started a 17-6 run. He finished 6-for-8 from behind the arc.

The United States (4-0) used a 12-0 run to take a 45-22 lead and it was ahead 53-34 at halftime.

Nick Fazekas of Nevada had 10 points and 14 rebounds for the U.S. team, while Rajon Rondo of Kentucky had 19 points and five steals. Mardy Collins of Temple and Justin Gray of Wake Forest each added 11 points.

Abubakar Usman led Nigeria (1-3) with 18 points.

The United States closes preliminary play on Wednesday against Slovenia.

The quarterfinals are Friday and the championship game is Sunday night.
