NEW YORK - Troy Bergeron, the youngest player in the Arena Football League, was selected Rookie of the Year on Wednesday.
Bergeron, the offensive specialist of the Georgia Force, was chosen in a vote by AFL head coaches, fans and media. At 21, he also made the All-Rookie team for setting an AFL rookie record with 1,372 yards receiving. Bergeron, who attended Middle Tennessee State, had 105 receptions and 31 touchdowns. He also had 64 kick returns for 1,180 yards and finished with 2,550 all-purpose yards and 188 points.
During the first round of the playoffs last week, Bergeron won top offensive player honors for his performance in a 62-46 win over Tampa Bay. Bergeron had eight receptions for 85 yards and three touchdowns. On special teams, he returned four kicks for 102 yards, including a 56-yard return for a touchdown.
