The NBA is considering allowing advertising on uniforms, according to a report by Bloomberg News.

The NBA bans advertising on uniforms, and doesn't even allow the manufacturer of the uniforms to include a visible logo like the NFL, Major League Baseball and NHL do. According to the report, the NBA is exploring advertising opportunities.

"I don't doubt it will eventually happen, but at a price that recognizes that value," NBA commissioner David Stern said in the report.

Stern also said the NBA teams lost money in the past season, but didn't offer any specifics.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he supported the idea.

"If it were up to me, they would already be there," Cuban told Bloomerg. The Mavericks had the second-highest payroll in the NBA at $87 million, behind only the New York Knicks.

New Jersey Nets chief executive Brett Yormark said he would even consider selling the team's name.

"Wherever the Nets went, the company would go," he told Bloomberg.

Such advertising is common in NASCAR, where a primary sponsorship can go for $20 million.
