AFL PhotosWright way on defense
Even if the San Jose defense has a sub-par game, their offense is good enough to overcome that and notch a win.
Wright, a wide receiver and defensive back, has played very well.
He was named U.S. Army Ironman of the month for April.
The rookie out of Fresno State caught 30 passes for 424 yards and six touchdowns in April.
On defense he had 32.0 tackles and an interception, which he returned 36 yards.
Wright earned Ironman of the Week honors in Week 12 and Week 13.
His Week-12 play really stood out as he had career highs of 227 all-purpose yards and 8.5 tackles.
While the overall defensive effort from the San Jose defense has been a bit up and down, I just sense that in the postseason it will be solid on a consistent basis.
Going for it all -- again
When talking success in the AFL it would be hard not to start the conversation with San Jose, which over the last five years has had a run unmatched by any other team.
Over that span the SaberCats have won three Western Division titles and two AFL championships.
The SaberCats have an aura, a swagger, a confidence about them.
I think they have an advantage also in that they have been to the ArenaBowl and won it.
They know what it takes to bring home a championship.
Coach Arbet's philosophy is to score points in bunches and so the SaberCats' offense embraces an up-tempo style.
In the postseason teams taking on San Jose may try to slow the pace of the game down, but with the talent the SaberCats have on offense I don't think that strategy will pay off.
San Jose will still be quite capable of scoring a touchdown on every possession.
If the SaberCats play at their highest level, they will be a very, very tough team to handle in the playoffs.
