MOSCOW - Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin of Russia won their second consecutive pairs gold medal Wednesday at the World Figure Skating Championships.
The victory capped a season that began with a near catastrophe, when Totmianina fell on her head at Skate America in Pittsburgh and was hospitalized for days.
Compatriots Maria Petrova and Alexei Tikhonov won the silver, and Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao of China were third.
Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo of China had been in third place after the short program, but pulled out of Wednesday’s free skate due to an undisclosed injury.

NEW YORK (AP) - As the glow fades from the Giants' Super Bowl triumph, some New York sports fans are tuning in to basketball and hockey, with the Rangers in first place and the Knicks' overnight sensation, Jeremy Lin, sparking "Lin-sanity.''
Robins: This year, six new breeds will be making their debut on the green carpet for the Westminster Dog Show, which begins Monday.
