The perfect Raider.

How many times have we heard this one?

Admit it, you got sucked into it when you heard the blockbuster news that the Minnesota Vikings, finally having had enough of him, agreed to ship enigmatic receiver Randy Moss to the Oakland Raiders for an uninspired package. The first thing that hit your mind: Moss, now he’s a perfect Raider.

We’ve heard this perfect Raider business for the past 30 years. Whenever a player who has worn out his welcome elsewhere came to Oakland, he was labeled as a perfect Raider.

These are all perfect Raiders: Matuzak, Alzado, Lott, Rice, Romanowski, Sapp. And now Moss.

Most of these perfect Raiders types came and went without making much of a difference in the grand scheme of winning championships.

But this time, Al Davis may actually have found the perfect Raider.

Randy is a renegade, no question. Moss doesn’t care about much else but scoring touchdowns and doing his own thing. Rude, crude and the baddest player in the NFL.

Davis might have found his newest favorite Raider. Move over, Snake, Ghost and the Assassin, the Super Freak is taking over the Black Hole. Afros and attitudes are growing in the East Bay as we type.

Moss is Davis’ last chance to being a relevant NFL shaker. Davis used to be relevant, but in the past decade he’s become a cartoon of his former self. The Raiders’ recent but oh-so distant revival was driven by Jon Gruden. The Raiders are back to being significant and unsuccessful without him.

But Moss could change it. And if he doesn’t, who really cares?

He’s the perfect Raider.

He shoots life into Davis. In his 70s, Davis’ time running the organization could be on a short leash. Moss will make his remaining time with the team riveting.

Moss makes everything exciting.

Plus, on the field, he was made for Davis. The chief Raid-dah loves to go downtown with the ball. He wants the kill shot.

Moss is the best deep threat in the NFL. Perhaps in the history of the league. At 6-foot-4 and with ungodly speed, Moss can change games. Bombs fall easily into his hands any time he wants.
