Many thought the Yankees might try to trade Giambi after it was reported that he admitted to using steroids during grand jury testimony in California.
Giambi was plagued with physical maladies last season, but "healthwise, he's doing better," Cashman told the Post. "He feels as good as he ever has. He's excited to put last year behind him. That's all I can really say."
Last season, Giambi batted .208 with 12 home runs in 80 games. He had averaged 40 home runs per season the previous four years.
The Yankees signed first baseman Tino Martinez this winter. That move was widely seen as an attempt to replace Giambi.
