Series: Georgia 1-0 (34-27 in '89 Gator)
What Georgia must do to win: It is one last chance for Georgia, the preseason No. 1, to salvage something of the season. Nine wins should be a terrific accomplishment, but the losses were aggravating from being blown out at home to Alabama, embarrassed by rival Florida, and losing to uber-rival Georgia Tech.
The biggest issue is a defense that is too-light up front, which could pose problems stopping Spartans’ back Javon Ringer. The good news is the Bulldogs get a few weeks to repair an offensive line hurt by injuries.
What Michigan State must do to win: Keep moving on the ground with Javon Ringer who averages 132 yards per game. Georgia is fast, but the Bulldogs were vulnerable inside to the run as Alabama and Georgia Tech proved.
One concern if you are handicapping this game is that the two best teams in the Big Ten destroyed the Spartans’ defense for 49 and 45 points, respectively. Michigan State’s 9-3 is viewed just the opposite of Georgia’s 9-3. The Spartans’ overachieved.
Who the NFL is watching: Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno; Michigan State RB Javon Ringer and safety Otis Wiley.
Opening point spread: Georgia by 5.5 (54)
Prediction: Georgia 38, Michigan State 31
MVP: Georgia QB Matthew Stafford
