Marion won't race for rest of year

Jones, Liu Xiang pull out of Berlin track meet

BERLIN - Marion Jones pulled out of Sunday’s Golden League meet because of back pain, and organizers said she won’t compete again this year.

Also out of the meet is Liu Xiang, the Olympic 110-meter hurdles champion and co-holder of the world record. Organizers said Friday he did not receive permission from his federation, and he also will miss the Sept. 18-19 IAAF World Finals in Monte Carlo.

Liu equaled Colin Jackson’s world record of 12.91 seconds at the Athens Games to become the first Chinese man to win a gold medal in track and field.

Jones had been set to compete in the long jump. She won five medals at the 2002 Sydney Games but failed to win a medal in her two events in Athens, the long jump and 400-meter relay.
