updated 3:49 p.m. ET Aug. 29, 2004

NEW YORK - As the Games come to a close, expect a spectacular Closing Ceremony, if slightly less subdued. Slightly. The stadium is being turned into a giant wheatfield.

About 250,000 balloons will cascade down from a night sky exploding with fireworks as viewers bid adieu to 10,500 athletes from a record 202 countries.

TV coverage of the ceremony kicks off on NBC at 7 p.m. ET, it will cap nearly 1,210 hours of competition NBC will have aired on five channels, telemundo and HDTV.
