STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Olympic favorite Allen Johnson led an American double in the 110-meter hurdles, winning the event Tuesday at the DN Galan.
Johnson clocked a relatively slow 13.31 seconds in his 10th outdoor race in the Swedish capital. Terrence Trammell finished second in 13.38.
Johnson, a four-time world champion and the 1996 Olympic champion, shares the U.S. record at 12.91, just one hundredth of a second off Briton Colin Jackson’s world mark from 1993.
In the men’s 100, Aziz Zakari of Ghana beat four Americans and won in 10.00, the seventh-fastest time of the year.
Leonard Scott, Mardy Scales, Joshua Johnson and Coby Miller — who all missed spots in the sprints at the U.S. Olympic Trials — took the next four placings.
Marian Oprea of Romania snapped world champion Christian Olsson’s 29-meet winning streak in the men’s triple jump, edging the Swede by two centimeters.
On a rainy and cold night, Oprea got a big confidence boost before next month’s Olympics in Athens.
Olsson, unbeaten outdoors and indoors for 18 months going into one of his favorite meets, won before a sellout crowd of 15,553 at Olympic Stadium. The stadium was built for the 1912 Summer Games and the world’s oldest Olympic venue still in use.
“Unfortunately my legs felt like jelly. Maybe I could have put out a better jump today, but I still think jumping in Paris was in my legs too much,” said Olsson, who won a Golden League meet Friday in France.
“I’m not too disappointed, but obviously I would have liked to continue the streak, especially here in front of the home crowd,” he said.
