The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Steelers "really wanted" to re-sign Brian Hoyer.
The Steelers had Hoyer for two weeks last season before cutting him in favor of a practice squad cornerback. The move was a mistake. Beat writer Ed Bouchette reports if the Cardinals had not tendered Hoyer at the second-round level, Pittsburgh would have pushed hard to bring him back. The Steelers now have Bruce Gradkowski as their backup and are expected to take another in the draft.
