Justin Verlander was tagged for three homers and four runs in 5 2/3 innings by the Tigers on Thursday.
Verlander has given up homers to Jordany Valdespin, Brandon Hicks, Brandon Laird, Carlos Corporan and Matt Dominguez in his last two starts. We can still chalk it up as a spring training fluke, but it's unprecedented; that's as many homers as he allowed in his previous 20 spring training starts dating back to 2010. He's given up more runs in 19 innings this year (10) than he did in spring 2011 and 2012 combined (nine runs in 54 2/3 innings).
