Will Smith continued to make his charge at securing the fifth spot in the Royals Opening Day rotation, allowing one run on five hits over four innings of work against the Padres on Friday.
Smith racked up two strikeouts without walking a batter in the game. The 23-year old lefty is coming off a disappointing rookie campaign, but owns a 1.64 ERA and 10/1 K/BB ratio over 11 innings this spring. The final spot in the rotation appears to be a three-way battle between Smith, Luis Mendoza and Bruce Chen.
