Cardinals sign Matt Shaughnessy
Matt Shaughnessy - DL - Arizona Cardinals
March 15, 2013 - 4:20 PM ET

Cardinals signed DE Matt Shaughnessy to a one-year contract.

Shaughnessy is smartly taking a one-year, "prove-it" deal in an effort to rehab his value at age 26. Shaughnessy flashed legit Pro Bowl-caliber talent early in his career with Oakland -- specifically 2010 -- before a major shoulder injury wiped out his 2011 season and he returned less effective in 2012. If back to 100 percent, Shaughnessy could end up as the Cardinals' starting right defensive end. Bruce Arians promises to use Darnell Dockett inside more moving forward. Calais Campbell is Arizona's all-world left end, or "five technique."
