ESPN's Ed Werder believes it's "unlikely" the Cowboys will extend Tony Romo before the start of free agency.
"I had always believed that would be the case," Werder said Saturday. "But the closer we get to the date and given the fact that it's been nothing but denials when you ask if the negotiations have even begun yet, I would have to say that seems unlikely." Romo is owed $11.5 million in 2013, but the Cowboys don't feel the need to rush an extension for cap purposes. FOX Sports' Matt Mosley expects Romo to seek $40-$45 million guaranteed in his new contract.
