J.C. Linares went 2-for-4 and homered off Kyle Gibson in Boston's 2-1 defeat of Minnesota on Saturday.
Linares, a 28-year-old Cuban defector, is in camp as a non-roster player after hitting .316/.364/.510 with 16 homers in 412 at-bats between Double- and Triple-A last year. He's a pretty good defensive outfielder, so if he can keep his average up again this year, perhaps he'll earn a look at some point. A future as a bench player is a possibility.
