Jackie Bradley Jr. went 3-for-5 with three runs scored as the Red Sox vanquished the Pirates 16-6 on Thursday.
Taking advantage of 15 walks, the Red Sox scored their 16 runs without ever collecting an extra-base hit. Since 1916, only one team had ever scored so many runs in a regular-season game without the benefit of an extra-base hit; the Royals did it in beating the Blue Jays 16-12 on Aug. 6, 1979. Bradley is now 8-for-14 this spring in his long shot bid to secure a roster spot. The Red Sox say they aren't ruling it out, but it's highly, highly unlikely that they'll carry him.
