Former No. 1 overall pick Tim Beckham tripled and doubled off the bench in the Rays' 8-2 defeat of the Pirates on Wednesday.
Beckham was a disappointment last season, hitting .256/.325/.361 as a 22-year-old in Triple-A, and he doesn't project as a regular for the Rays. It looks like the team will move him around this spring, making him a possible utility candidate going forward. The Rays do have need of versatile infielders after losing both Reid Brignac and Elliot Johnson over the winter.
