According to "people familiar with the situation," the Texans will meet with free agent OLB Connor Barwin's agent at the Combine, and "both sides" are hopeful of a new deal.
Beat writer Tania Ganguli would be "surprised" if Barwin didn't reach the open market, but it sounds like the sides will at least give extension talks a college try. Barwin previously turned down extensions both before the 2012 season and after his breakout 2011 campaign. The Texans' salary-cap situation isn't as dire as it was last offseason, but they still have little flexibility. Barwin, meanwhile, saw his sack total dip from 11.5 in 2011 to three last season.
