Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports that the Red Sox would only have to pay Alfredo Aceves about $440,000 of his $2.65 million salary if they release him before March 13.
The reason the salary isn't fully guaranteed is because it was agreed upon in a settlement before going to arbitration. If they wait until March 27 to release him, they would owe him about $660,000. Aceves is certainly good enough to be on the team's Opening Day roster, but it's possible the Sox could choose to cut him loose if they've grown tired of his antics. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal says Boston isn't ready to make the move yet, though.
