Giants not expecting to use the franchise tag

Owner John Mara said the Giants will "probably not" use the franchise tag this year.
The Giants' best candidate for the tag was LT Will Beatty, but TE Martellus Bennett was a possibility as well. It now looks like both players will test the market when free agency opens on March 12. Bennett has stated that he could give the Giants a "hometown discount" after finally breaking out with a 55/626/5 line in his first season out of Jason Witten's shadow. Beatty enters a loaded left tackle market that will also include Branden Albert, Jake Long, Jermon Bushrod and Sam Baker.
