Brandon Inge has a late-March opt-out clause in his new minor league contract with the Pirates.
In other words, he can become a free agent if it appears unlikely that he's going to have a spot on the Pirates' Opening Day roster. Inge hit just .218/.275/.383 last year but slugged 12 home runs in 83 games. Pittsburgh has been missing that kind of pop on the bench.
