According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers' high regard for Leonys Martin is the main reason why they didn't pursue a free-agent outfielder.
Sullivan's opinion isn't breaking news, but part of a growing consensus around the league. The Rangers are giving Martin every opportunity to be their Opening Day center fielder, and he faces little competition in the way of Craig Gentry and Julio Borbon. In his limited time in the majors last season, Martin batted just .184/.262/.395 in 17 games, but the 24-year-old has excelled at the top levels of the minors, and is a worthy late-round pick in mixed fantasy leagues.
