March 12 is the first day of the new league year, and it's when big money spending gets underway with free agency kicking off. Romo has one year left on his deal, and it carries a $16.8 million cap hit. ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins believes an extension in the three- to five-year range worth around $12 million annually will be the solution to lowering the 2013 cap number.
