Andrew Cashner hopes to be ready for Opening Day, even though he won't begin throwing bullpen sessions until around March 1.
Cashner required emergency surgery in December after suffering a lacerated tendon in his right thumb during a hunting accident. He's probably being overly optimistic about his timetable, as it will be hard to predict anything until he starts to throw. When healthy, Cashner is a dynamic pitcher. The problem is that, thus far in his career, he has rarely been able to stay healthy.
