Miguel Cairo retires after 17-year MLB career

Miguel Cairo is joining the Reds' front office.

Cairo will operate as a special assistant to GM Walt Jocketty. The veteran infielder had hoped to continue his playing career this season but struggled to attract any interest after batting just .187/.212/.280 in 2012. Cairo collected 1,044 hits during his 17-year MLB career.
