Jordan Zimmermann said Monday that his representatives and the Nationals are "getting closer" in negotiations to avoid arbitration for 2013.
Both sides have expressed a willingness to explore a long-term deal, but it appears the focus at this point is on a one-year pact. Zimmermann's arbitration hearing, if needed, is scheduled for February 19, but it sounds like there's a good chance something will be worked out before then. The righty, who is arbitration-eligible for the second time, requested $5.8 million and was offered $4.6 million by the Nationals when figures were exchanged last month.
