The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero says the Dolphins and impending free agent CB Sean Smith are "not close" on a new contract, and adds that Smith will not be franchised.
The Herald has always been of the belief that Smith will either get a new deal from the Dolphins or reach the free-agent market, while the Palm Beach Post reported at the end of December that Smith would "almost certainly" be tagged if a long-term agreement wasn't reached. Smith is targeting $8-10 million annually on his next deal, but Miami doesn't value him at that price.
