The Boston Herald considers impending free agent Aqib Talib a candidate for the Patriots' franchise tag.
Talib is the top cornerback available this offseason and has shutdown potential, but his off-field history and questionable work ethic are expected to prevent the Patriots from offering him a multi-year deal. With Sebastian Vollmer and Wes Welker also free agents, he could be allowed to hit the open market. Under the franchise tag, Talib would cost $10.7 million in 2013.
