Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday that right-hander Jeurys Familia will come to spring training as a reliever.
It's not a big surprise, as most believe that will be his role in the long-term. Familia, a hard-throwing right-hander, had a 5.84 ERA and 10/9 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings last season in his first taste of the big leagues. There might not be enough room for him on the Opening Day roster, but he could become an impact late-inning arm.
