Giants RT Diehl triggers 2013 escalator
David Diehl - T - New York Giants
Jan. 31, 2013 - 12:20 AM ET

Giants RT David Diehl triggered an escalator in his contract, upping his 2013 salary from $4.1 million to $4.475 million.

Diehl started nine games in 2012, but if the Giants had it their way, he wouldn't have seen the field that much. He was forced back into the starting lineup after veteran journeyman Sean Locklear tore his ACL in Week 13. Diehl, 33 next September, is entering the final year of his contract, and he's likely to be released unless he takes a pay cut. The Giants might want to look at 2011 fourth-round pick James Brewer as the right tackle for 2013.
