A source tells the Philadelphia Inquirer that the Eagles can hold off on a Michael Vick decision beyond Feb. 6 without paying him $3 million guaranteed.
The only way the Eagles will end up owing Vick the $3 million is if they cut him and no one else picks him up -- or the team that does pick him up pays him less than $3 million. Those two scenarios almost certainly won't happen. Therefore, new coach Chip Kelly can comfortably take his time to evaluate the situation and not cost his owner. If Kelly ends up deciding that he wants Vick to run his offense, a contract renegotiation is expected to take place. There's no way Vick will get the full $15.5 million he's on the books for in 2013.
