According to MLB.com's Greg Johns, the Mariners have reached a one-year contract with Kelly Shoppach.
Shoppach will be in Seattle on Wednesday for a physical, after which the contract should be made official. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says the deal is worth $1.5 million, with a possible $500,000 available in incentives. The 32-year-old is likely to serve as the Mariners' primary backup this season behind Jesus Montero. He batted .233/.309/.425 over 76 games in 2012.
