Devin McCourty was Patriots' 2012 'iron man'
Devin McCourty - DB - New England Patriots
Jan. 26, 2013 - 8:55 AM ET

Patriots FS Devin McCourty was the team's "iron man" in 2012, playing 98 percent of New England's defensive snaps and 52 percent on special teams.

All told, he played 1,329 snaps on defense and 256 on "teams." Plagued by inconsistency his first two NFL seasons at cornerback, McCourty was moved to free safety essentially full time for the final 12 games in 2012 and took off. His 10.1 passer rating allowed on throws into his coverage was the NFL's stingiest clip, per Pro Football Focus. He also has 14 interceptions through three seasons. The Pats have 25-year-old McCourty under contract cheaply through 2014.
