Nats open to Zimmermann, Desmond extensions

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said he's "definitely open minded" about signing Jordan Zimmermann and Ian Desmond to long-term extensions.
Desmond avoided arbitration last week with a $3.7 million deal, and Rizzo hopes he can also avoid a hearing with Zimmermann, who requested $5.8 million and was offered $4.6 million from the Nats. Both players are under team control through 2016, so it's not a necessity to work out a long-term deal at this time.
