Red Sox 'checked in' about trade for Smoak

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe writes that the Red Sox have "checked in" with Seattle about a trade for Justin Smoak.
Smoak has been subject to trade rumors following the Mariners' addition of Kendrys Morales, but he would only become an option for Boston if the Mike Napoli deal isn't finalized. Cafardo also confirms that the Red Sox worked out Bobby Abreu this offseason, and have expressed interest in free agents Casey Kotchman, Lyle Overbay, and Nick Johnson.
