Steelers dump Rainey after overnight arrest
Chris Rainey - RB - Pittsburgh Steelers
Jan. 10, 2013 - 3:40 PM ET

Steelers waived RB/KR Chris Rainey.

That was fast. The Steelers apparently had a no-tolerance policy for the former Florida star who was red-flagged as a character risk by several teams last offseason. Rainey was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly pulling a woman out of a car and slapping her across the face. The team confirmed that the move came as a direct result of the arrest. Although 2012 fifth-rounder looked explosive on returns in preseason action, he was a non-factor in the regular season, averaging just 3.9 yards per on 26 carries and 4.3 yards per on 14 receptions. Similar to Dexter McCluster, Rainey simply lacks the size and power to force missed tackles at the NFL level.
