One and done: Jags fire coach Mike Mularkey
Jaguars Offense - TM - Jacksonville Jaguars
Jan. 10, 2013 - 12:00 PM ET

Jaguars fired head coach Mike Mularkey.

New general manager David Caldwell wants to handpick his own coach and rebuild the Jags with a clean slate. So the offensive-minded Mularkey's second stint as an NFL head coach is over after one 2-14 season that saw the Jags rank 29th in total offense. His first chance -- with the Bills beginning in 2004 -- lasted just two seasons before he resigned. 49ers OC Greg Roman is considered the odds-on favorite to replace Mularkey thanks to his long-standing friendship with college roomate Caldwell. Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer is also expected to be in the mix. Eight NFL teams have now fired their coach since last Monday, with just two of the openings filled so far.
