Jan. 9, 2013 - 5:50 PM ET

Jonathan Singleton has been suspended 50 games for violating the minor league baseball drug policy.

"I was informed today that I have tested positive for marijuana," Singleton said in a statement. "As a result, I am being suspended for the first 50 games of the 2013 season. I accept the penalty and take full responsibility for my actions. I apologize to my parents, the Houston Astros and (general manager) Jeff Luhnow." The 21-year-old first baseman was acquired from the Phillies in July 2011 as part of a package for Hunter Pence and is generally regarded as one of the game's top prospects.
