RGIII undergoes 're-do' of ACL reconstruction
Robert Griffin III - QB - Washington Redskins
Jan. 10, 2013 - 1:25 AM ET

According Redskins team doctor James Andrews, Robert Griffin III underwent a "direct repair" of his torn LCL Wednesday, and a "re-do" of his previous ACL reconstruction.

In other words, Griffin has undergone a reconstruction of his right knee. Andrews declined to offer an exact timetable for Griffin's return, but said "it is everybody's hope and belief that due to Robert's high motivation, he will be ready for the 2013 season." As Adrian Peterson and others have proven, ACL tears are no longer a particularly imposing injury to come back from, but RGIII's case is made a bit trickier by the fact that this is his second reconstruction. Nevertheless, Griffin is every bit the athlete AD is, and we'd be far from surprised if he's ready for Week 1. His timeline should clarify in the coming weeks.
