Bucs do not plan to extend Freeman's contract
Josh Freeman - QB - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jan. 7, 2013 - 8:15 AM ET

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs have no plans to extend Josh Freeman's contract this offseason.

Freeman will play out the 2013 season in the final year of his rookie contract. The Bucs will then determine whether to move on to another quarterback or use the franchise tag while trying to sign him to a long-term deal. Although Freeman set franchise records for yards and touchdowns in 2012, accuracy and consistency were elusive. The Bucs don't want to get stuck in a Mark Sanchez situation with guaranteed money tying their hands if Freeman doesn't improve. Coach Greg Schiano plans to add a quarterback to compete with Freeman in 2013.
