Berkman needs 550 plate appeances to vest

According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Lance Berkman will need to get 550 plate appearances in order for his vesting option for 2014 to kick in.
Given the veteran slugger's recent health issues, that's going to be a tough target to meet. Berkman is slated to serve as the Rangers' designated hitter this season but will still need regular days off to rest his legs.
