Chiefs fired GM Scott Pioli.
The Chiefs are calling it a "mutual parting" after Pioli assisted owner Clark Hunt in interviewing Andy Reid. "There is no way to overstate the level of respect and admiration I have for Scott on a personal level," Hunt said in a statement. The move wouldn't have happened unless the Chiefs had the framework of a deal in place with Reid, who is expected to bring in his own general manager to handle scouting and the draft. The ultra-secretive (some might say borderline paranoid) Pioli leaves a roster with respectable talent on defense and the offensive line, but was ultimately done in by his blind devotion to Matt Cassel at quarterback. SI.com's Peter King's "gut feeling" is that Pioli will not work for an NFL team in 2013. According to CSN New England, the odds of Pioli returning to the Patriots are "long."
