No surgery date set for Alex Rodriguez
Alex Rodriguez - 3B - New York Yankees
Jan. 4, 2013 - 9:55 AM ET

The New York Post's Dan Martin reports that no date has been set for Alex Rodriguez's left hip surgery, and he's not expected to have the procedure until "at least" mid-January.

Martin also notes that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman "wouldn't hazard a guess" when asked when he expected A-Rod back. The team announced at the beginning of December that surgery was necessary, but doctors advised that Rodriguez build up strength in the hip before going under the knife. He's expected to need 4-6 months of recovery time. Kevin Youkilis will hold down third base in the meantime.
