Matt Hasselbeck content to stick as backup
Matt Hasselbeck - QB - Tennessee Titans
Jan. 3, 2013 - 8:40 AM ET

Matt Hasselbeck said he's content to serve as Jake Locker's backup once again next season.

Entering the final year of his contract at age 38, Hasselbeck knows his role. He's expected to mentor Locker, aiding in the development of the Titans' franchise quarterback. It's not like Hasselbeck would be able to land a starting gig if he hit the open market anyway. "I'm OK with being a part of his maturing process if that's the role I have to play," he said. "What also goes with that role is stepping in if he can't go, so I knew all that coming in." Hasselbeck is due $5.5 million in base salary in 2013.
