Lions may re-work Stafford's contract
Matthew Stafford - QB - Detroit Lions
Jan. 2, 2013 - 7:15 PM ET

Lions GM Martin Mayhew hopes to renegotiate or extend Matthew Stafford's contract this offseason.

Despite Stafford's rocky 2012, the Lions are still clearly interested in locking him up long-term. The Detroit Free Press reported in July that Stafford is due to count a whopping $20 million against the cap in 2013, so there's a clear incentive for Detroit to renegotiate his deal in the form of an extension. Stafford is currently signed for $12 million in 2013 and $11 million in 2014. The Lions hold a $15 million option for 2015.
